Concerns about Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART)

ABQ Ride, the City Transit system, is proposing major upgrades to the Central Avenue bus service in the form of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, somewhat like that in Cleveland, Ohio, and some other cities.

While UHA supports improved transit, it has numerous concerns about the design for the BRT in the university area, and the impact of the BRT on neighborhood traffic on the north-south streets and Silver, Lead, and Coal.

UHA's concerns to the city were described in a letter on December 18, 2014.

UHA is continuing to encourage neighborhood residents and businesses to learn about the ART and be involved in the continuing discussions and decisions about the project.
Lead and Coal safety problems

Because of numerous accidents on Lead and Coal, and speeding, reckless driving, and noise issues, UHA has asked the Mayor and other city officials to take action in a letter.

The city's initial response was that it did not have the accident data which UHA requested.

UHA will continue to pursue the issue and welcomes feedback from neighborhood residents, as well as encouraging them to express their concerns.
Help a student AND get rid of electronic waste

I am collecting electronic waste for the first 6 weeks of school and I NEED your help for my SUST 499 project.

Do you have a bunch of old electronics just lying around the house, taking up space? Not sure what to do with

them? Does it even work? And WHO CARES?!?

I do.

Electronic waste is anything that uses electricity to perform its function that has either been destroyed,

malfunctioned, outdated, or simply just forgot about. But that doesn’t mean it’s lost its value….

In the US, we are beginning to recognize a trend. A trend in the shift of waste. In 2009, 141 million cell phones

made it into our landfills. What will be thrown in there today? At the rate we are going, we see a dramatic rise in

electronics in landfills constituting for 2/3 of the weight produced annually. Whatever isn’t left internally is traded

overseas to Asia and Africa for them to deal with.

My goal is to bring awareness to this situation through an intervention. Raising awareness not only changes

perspective, but it also inspires creativity and innovation.

ANYTHING that you are not using and need to get out of the way, I will take. It does not need to be

operational. There is a sample list below of the items I will be accepting:

Computer Monitors less than 16”

CELL PHONES

Televisions under 16”

Printers

Scanners

Speakers

Stereo equipment

Lights (prefer operational)

Chargers (ANY KIND)

Radios

Curling Irons

Hair Dryers

Toys

CDs

Car electrical equipment

Computer cases

Computer components

Small kitchen appliances

WIRE – ANY AND ALL

Extension cords

Any other electronics that I might have forgotten 

*********** PLEASE NOTE****************

I don’t not want things you currently use in your life or if you would rather sell it to make money. This is a capstone project that is being built from the electronics we consume.

Please bring smaller items to my studio desk in the northeast corner of the second level, or arrange a meeting time with me via email: bontly@unm.edu

From October 22nd at the Loma Linda Community Center, a second round of three public meetings took place for the Mid Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) UNM/CNM/Sunport Transit Study. A presentation was given about the study area background, expected future growth and development, the main goal and objectives of the study, and why a north-south transit link is so important to this largest activity center in the region.

Study organizers have received much input from local residents and other stakeholders. Among these:

- People value safe and secure parking and travelling by bus, more frequent and late night transit service, a schedule that is predictable with timely connections, and short walks from transit stops.

- People would like to see more dining and shopping in the area(particularly south of Central), services that serve the community neighborhoods, and walkable developments.

If you missed the public meetings, there is still time to provide input until November 19th! Please click here to read more about the project including PDFs of the presentations on the project, or click on this link to go straight to the survey. Note that the name and address information at the start of the survey is optional, you only have to fill it in if you want to be added to the mailing list for the project.
