Concerns about Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART)

ABQ Ride, the City Transit system, is proposing major upgrades to the Central Avenue bus service in the form of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, somewhat like that in Cleveland, Ohio, and some other cities.

While UHA supports improved transit, it has numerous concerns about the design for the BRT in the university area, and the impact of the BRT on neighborhood traffic on the north-south streets and Silver, Lead, and Coal.

From October 22nd at the Loma Linda Community Center, a second round of three public meetings took place for the Mid Region Council of Governments (MRCOGUNM/CNM/Sunport Transit Study. A presentation was given about the study area background, expected future growth and development, the main goal and objectives of the study, and why a north-south transit link is so important to this largest activity center in the region.

The University Heights neighborhood has many residents and visitors who use bicycles to commute to work and school, and because of our proximity to UNM and the Bicycle Boulevard running through the neighborhood, we have many cyclists passing through our streets every day. 2035 Regional Metropolitan Transportation Plan Community Meeting

City Councilor Isaac Benton and County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins are hosting a community meeting for a presentation and discussion of the 2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).  This plan will shape transportation policy in the region for the next 20 years and beyond, and community members are encouraged to attend. 

The meeting is Thursday, February 24 at 5:30 pm at the Heights Community Center (823 Buena Vista SE).

Take the MRCOG Transportation Survey now, and help shape transportation policy in Albuquerque

The Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) is beginning work on the 2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan and is seeking public input via a survey.  This plan will provide a vision for future transportation in the central New Mexico metropolitan area.

Feedback regarding experiences traveling by car, train, bus, bicycle and walking are needed. Also, comments are sought related to what would benefit transportation in the region over the next 20 years.
