Lead and Coal safety problems

Because of numerous accidents on Lead and Coal, and speeding, reckless driving, and noise issues, UHA has asked the Mayor and other city officials to take action in a letter.

The city's initial response was that it did not have the accident data which UHA requested.

UHA will continue to pursue the issue and welcomes feedback from neighborhood residents, as well as encouraging them to express their concerns.

FEDERAL STIMULUS DOLLARS MOVE LEAD & COAL RE-DESIGN ONTO THE FAST TRACK

Mayor Chavez announced on August 13 and the City Council approved on August 17 an agreement with the Richardson administration and State Department of Transportation to use $25 million of federal stimulus funds, and an additional $7 million of city funds, for Lead Coal redesign. $4 million of the city funds must be approved by voters as part of the bond issue on the October 6 ballot.
