On Monday, July 16 at 11:02 a.m., UNM will test its emergency notification system including the sirens. Thesirens will sound for one minute followed by a short pause, then a one-minute all clear will sound.

The purpose of the sirens is to alert the campus community of an incident which may compromise the safety of people on campus. These types of incidents could include severe weather, environmental hazards or threat from an armed individual. When the sirens sound persons should seek shelter immediately and look to the other components of the notification system for additional information.

Although the sirens are intended to warn those on the UNM campus, the surrounding communities will be able to hear them as well. Please do not go to the campus until the “all-clear” has been sounded.

Additional information should be sought, however, from the local media or UNM web site at: http://www.unm.edu.

UNM will test the system at the beginning of each semester, and these tests will be advertised well in advance to avoid confusion with a real incident.
